Breed DescriptionNewfoundlands are strong and incredibly large dogs. They have a great temperament, courageous, generous and intelligent. They are very devoted to their family and adapt well to a new home. As with the Bullmastiff, the Newfoundland places itself between its family and an intruder and can recognise a dangerous situation and act as it deems necessary. They have a keen sense and any visitor that is recognised or greeted by the family will receive a warm and loving invitation into the Newfoundlands territory. They enjoy being outdoors, but also love the companionship of its owner. In order to receive the best in your Newfoundland, care when training is a must, it has to be consistent, calm and well balanced. Be aware that the Newfoundland is a large dog and may take longer to do some tasks than smaller breeds. Wonderful with children, the Newfoundland is a cuddly bear. Like the St Bernard, it is a great addition to a family and with proper care and supervision children will find in a Newfoundland a protector and friend.
